Whether you’re into rock, hip hop or jazz, you really have to be a real trooper if you don’t let yourself be swayed by the sailors’ interpretations of the classic songs for sailors…
Despite the fact that the eight musicians in Sømændene do not earn their living by sailing the seven seas, they manage to create a credible seafaring illusion, taking the audience on a nostalgic journey as they, with their boyish seafaring charm and firm musicality, revive classic seafaring songs such as”Katinka, Katinka”, ”When A Sailor Lands”and ”As Long as the Shoe Can Walk”.
The musicians are from Karrebæksminde, who have created a completely unique and original concept on the Danish music scene.
With their ”mole-punk”, ”maggot-mashup” and ”provocateur art”, as they call it themselves, the guys can create a high-energy, cozy atmosphere among the audience. They have performed at several major festivals and are a very sought-after live band.
The band has gained a very dedicated fan base who come to concerts wearing sailor hats, berets and, in addition, swinging their arms in the cheerful sailor manner.
The sailors play both folk, rock and bluegrass music.
The sailors started out by publishing cover versions of sailor songs such as ”All Sailors Are Happy With Girls”and ”Knalde Kalle”.
There were also similar numbers that could be heard on their albums:
”Horkersnaps and Sea Foxes”
”With Stiff Knuckles and Hair Back”
”Explanation of the search”from 2008 (which sold platinum) and
”The Harbour's Temptationr” from 2010 (which sold gold).
In 2012 they won a Danish Music Award Folk for ”The Livening Name of the Year”.
Gradually the boys themselves started composing songs, which resulted in an additional release in 2013.”We Go Down Together”.
Then grab a captain's hat, a foam tip and find a scene near you where you can toast and go into a huddle with the Sailors.
