Simon Jul

Simon Jul, a Danish comedian, actor and musician, has been an institution in the Danish entertainment industry for the past 25 years.

Appeals to the audience

Simon Juls' comedy is characterized by a blend of sharp social satire, absurd humor, and personal stories. He differs from many classic stand-up comedians by often moving between satire, storytelling, and improvisation rather than following a traditional structure with punchlines.

Many would describe Simon Jul as a comedian who appeals to an audience that enjoys satire and layered, offbeat humor. His style is less like the very punchline-driven standup seen with, for example, Anders Matthesen, and more like a mix of storytelling, cultural commentary, and absurd comedy. This makes some see him as one of Denmark’s most original comedians, while others find his style more niche-oriented and less immediately accessible.

Comedy with a special rhythm and identity

Simon Jul often addresses politics, culture, and the absurdities of society. Here, the audience is both entertained and challenged to think about the topics.
His humor is often delivered with a calm expression and an almost indifferent tone, which makes the absurd points even more effective. Simon Jul is happy to break with expectations and conventions.

In his newer shows, he draws more on his own experiences and reflections on life, career, and his interests, which gives a more narrative form than the classic stand-up-style format. However, he still uses creative formulations, quirky imagery, and precise language that give his humor a special rhythm and identity.
