Whether you're into rock, hip hop or jazz, you'd have to be a bit of a stickler if you didn't get carried away by the sailors' interpretations of the sailor classics...
Despite the fact that the eight musicians in Sømændene do not make a living by sailing the seven oceans, they know how to create a believable sailor illusion and take the audience on a nostalgic journey when they, with their boyish sailor charm and fervent musicality, refresh classic sailor songs such as "Katinka, Katinka", "When a Sailor Goes Ashore” and ”As Long as the Shot Can Go".
The Sailors are from Karrebæksminde, who have created a completely unique and original concept on the Danish music scene.
The guys can create a high-energy, cozy atmosphere among the audience with their “pier punk”, “seagull mashup” and “provocative art”, as they call it. They have performed at several major festivals and are a much-used live band.
The band has gained a very dedicated fan base, who show up to concerts wearing sailor hats, waders and also swinging arm in arm to the cheerful sailor songs.
The sailors play folk, rock and bluegrass.
The sailors started small by releasing cover versions of sailor songs such as "All Sailors Are Happy For Girls” and ”Bang Kalle".
There were also similar songs on their albums:
"Hawksbills and Sea Monsters"
"With Stiff Gale and Hair Back"
"Sea explanations” from 2008 (which sold platinum) and
"The Temptation of the Harborr” from 2010 (which sold gold).
In 2012 they won a Danish Music Award Folk for "Live Name of the Year".
Gradually, the guys started composing songs themselves, which resulted in a further release in 2013.”We Go Down Together".
So grab a captain's cap, a meerschaum pipe and find a stage near you where you can toast and walk the floor with the Sailors.
