A divine voice, big dark eyes - and a smile that is contagious and melts hearts. She has it all, no one doubts that.
Maria Lucia has been on the sidelines in many amateur musical productions since she was 8 years old. She got her first leading role in “Miss Nitouche” at the age of 16 on the open-air stage Vilhelmsborg Festspil south of Aarhus and dreamed of making it her livelihood.
In 2001, Maria participated in the Talent competition "Young Singers" and won 3rd place and the Talent Prize.
In November 2003, she won the TV2 talent competition POPSTARS SHOWTIME and then released her first solo album “That's just me”, EMI (2004), with the hit singles “Taking Back My Heart” and “Something Worth Leaving Behind".
“Taking Back My Heart” was at number one on the charts for 8 consecutive weeks and the album sold over 22,000 copies and went gold and platinum.
She was also nominated for a Nordic Music Award '04 for 'Best Danish upcoming Name' + 'Best Danish Hit'.
In 2005, Maria Lucia made her professional stage debut as the lead role Belle in the musical "Beauty and the Beast" at Det Ny Teater, Copenhagen, and since then she has had a multitude of leading roles on Danish stages across the country.
In 2006, Maria Lucia received the Reumert's Talent Award for her roles in “Beauty and the Beast” and “West side Story” and in 2011 she received the Award for being Singer of the Year for her performance in the musical “Wicked” and is thus the first singer in Musical to have received the prestigious award.
In 2015, she also received the much-discussed and prestigious “Theatre Trophy” as the first female musical singer in Denmark.
Maria Lucia has provided voice for a multitude of cartoons and theme songs, but is probably best known for the voice she provides for the Snow Queen Elsa in Disney's cartoon "Frozen".
Frozen won an Oscar for Best Original Score in 2014 and was nominated for an Oscar in 2020 for the song "Into the Unknown", which Maria performed at the Oscar Gala in LA.
Maria Lucia has traveled the country and the world as a soloist at many concerts, including in 2011 and 2014 where the DR Entertainment Orchestra and the DR Vocal Ensemble held a series of concerts with great success where well-known songs from Disney classics were performed.
She has also been on the concert tours “I love Musicals” in 2014 and “I love Musicals 2” in 2016.
Maria Lucia has also appeared in several TV contexts and starred in the TV2 series "Store Drømme" in 2009.
