Tørfisk-1

For 38 years, the Thyborøn band TØRFISK has toured throughout Denmark, and it is worth mentioning that it is with the same line-up as when it all started in 1981.

TØRFISK has written and rehearsed new songs here in 2019, which are featured from the stage and the audience sings along, which shows that the new songs have also been approved, but don't worry, there is still room for the good old songs.

TØRFISK was released in 2017 with the CD "Vi ligger vandret", number 19 in the series, and the songs were also released on cassette tape, which in these modern times is a completely "new" phenomenon.

The release is a mix of old and new material. In addition to new tracks that take their point of departure from everyday life in Thyborøn, receding hairlines and advanced age, the CD and cassette also contain – for the first time in 16 years – live tracks from two concerts recorded at Enslev Community Centre.

Since 1981, TØRFISK has provided the soundtrack to West Jutland, and is among the very best in Denmark at combining Irish-inspired folk music with their own compositions and personal lyrics. The concerts are spiced up with robber stories and top-level entertainment. Always with great joy in playing, a twinkle in the eye and a typical West Jutland charm. They know how to get beyond the edge of the stage and touch on everyday topics, which are shot straight from the hip. The audience can never be completely safe. You may be sitting right in the firing line - but the quartet knows how to tease from the stage in a good and sober way.

TØRFISK's concerts are characterized by a mix of both the new and the familiar. Because when you have a whole "Vesterhaw" of songs in the back catalog, it's hard to say goodbye to the old (good) songs. And then there's the simple reason, as they themselves say: "that they don't use more than three or four chords on the string instruments", which is precisely what the old songs are built on.

With a lot of experience from the Danish music scene, and with 19 CDs, a number of cassette tapes and LPs over time and 2 DVD releases on the "net", TØRFISK still has great energy, joy of playing and a huge twinkle in their eye.

The crew reads:
Egon Kirk (1962): banjo, mandolin, vocals
Anker Hviid (1961): bouzouki, flute, accordion, vocals
Bent Bro (1961): guitar, pizza tray, vocals
Bent Kirk (1958): bass, vocals

Facts
Dried fish (or stockfish) is unsalted fish that is naturally dried by the sun and wind on a rack or (less often) dried in actual drying facilities. In the wider world, it is mostly cod that is used for dried fish. It is also used in Thyborøn, but the fish that the orchestra TØRFISK is named after is a dab, which is the most common form of dried fish on the west coast of Jutland. In everyday speech it is called a “dabs” which is the English word for dab.
